Supermarket chain Lidl has confirmed that its new store in Brentford is set to open next summer.

The company has commenced internal fit out works since being granted planning permission by Hounslow Council in October 2024 and says that significant progress has already been made. However, no specific date or month has yet been given with the store saying it will keep customers up to date as the project progresses.

The store, featuring a sales area of 1,439m², will include an in-store bakery and a Middle of Lidl aisle, as well as customer toilets with baby changing facilities.

Designs submitted with the planning application show that more of the store’s façade will be glass with windows replacing some of the brickwork on the exterior.

There will also be parking spaces for cars and bicycles although the number of bays for cars will be lower than in the former Morrisons car park. 40 jobs will be created when the store opens .

After being named the third biggest supermarket in London last year, the development of its Brentford store is part of Lidl’s broader growth across the capital. The discounter has opened six brand-new stores this month alone, including Caterham and Forest Gate, while it has reopened modernised locations in Chessington and Dagenham Heathway.

Grant Shulton, Regional Head of Property at Lidl GB, commented, “We’re thrilled to see work progressing on our new Brentford store following the planning permission being granted in October. There’s clear demand for an affordable, high-quality food store in the area, and we’re excited to bring this much-needed option to the community. With work on track, we’re looking forward to opening before the end of 2025 and will continue to keep residents updated on the project.”

This year also marks Lidl’s 30th anniversary in Great Britain.
