An application submitted to Hounslow Council in respect of changes that Lidl intends to make at its new location on Brentford High Street, shows a significant reduction in the number of parking spaces.

When Morrisons operated the store there were 90 spaces including disabled bays. Plans submitted by Lidl seem to indicate that these will be reduced to around 70.

It is understood that changed regulations relating to the required size of bays, partly introduced due to the trend towards larger vehicles, has meant that few spaces could be included.

L&Q, which is still planning a mixed-use development on the site, although the time-scale of this remains unclear, said that its scheme would retain 90 spaces at the location.

Lidl recently completed the signing of a lease with housing association L&Q to open a new store subject to planning permission.

The discount supermarket giant says that it will be making a multi-million pound investment in the site and creating 40 new jobs is the area.

The 1,430m2 store, which has been vacant since last September, will include a bakery, baby changing facilities.
