Friends' group is also installing heritage trail boards July 5, 2024 The Friends of Watermans Park have confirmed that the popular Summer Bandstands will be back in Watermans Park on each Saturday afternoon in July. The first bandstand on Saturday 6 July from 4pm to 6pm will welcome back the Speak Out in Hounslow Choir and feature local musicians Andrea Black, Steve Brewin and, the host for the season, Edwin Addis. Mr Basilico will be there too from 2pm with his contemporary Neapolitan pizza and Hannah of Flossy Bears will be serving ice cream, candyfloss and waffles to enjoy along with the music beside the river. There will also be a few craft stalls at the event. The Friends have some deck chairs for hire, or you may wish to bring your own or a picnic blanket. Musicians lined up for other Saturdays in July include Mandolin Jack, Rob Marshall, Gareth Haze, Elaine Samuels, Steve Hutchinson, Marky Dawson, Myriam Cavelli, Kate Bushra and Ed Hopwood. By this Saturday two information boards will have been installed in the park as part of the Heritage Trail between Kew Bridge and Brentford Bridge organised by Jim Storrar of Brentford Voice with the support of the Brentford & Chiswick Local History Society and a grant from the Council’s Thriving Communities Fund. The boards in the park feature Brentford Ait and the Brentford Gas Works. A board is being installed in St. Paul’s Recreation Ground too. Jim Storrar, David Shailes and Janet McNamara have researched and provided text and Simon Inc has designed the boards. The Friends encourage everyone to look out for the boards when they next visit the parks. The Friends of Watermans Park's main aim is to help protect, conserve and enhance Watermans Park, its environs and access to the River Thames for the enjoyment of residents and visitors. It was formed by a group of local people who envisage a vibrant community amenity which can host community events as well as an attractive recreational area for all. If you would like to get involved contact Philip Jones at chair@friendsofwatermanspark.org.
