Poetry up the pole

Pavement poets display their work

When BT put a telegraph pole next to her house, Brook Road South resident Diana Leap didn't get apoplectic - she got poetic.

"I was surprised to see the pole so close to my house" she told BrentfordTW8.com. "But I wanted to make something beautiful out of it, so I decided that it shouyld be a Poetry Pole. I put a sign up saying that people should add a poem, or anything artistic, and the result has been fantastic".

In the few weeks since the pole went up, about a dozen people have added their work to the pole. "I decided that I wouldn't be an editor, just a putter-upper" said Diana. "Some people pin their work up themselves whilst others put it through the door, asking me to do it for them. Either way is fine by me".

Unfortunately some of the poems have been ripped down whilst others have fallen foul of the bad weather, so there are currently some gaps on the pole.
