Store closing for good this weekend according to signs
April 12, 2024 Having been on the corner of Syon Lane and Great West Road since 1979, the landmark Homebase store looks set to finally close this weekend. Signs appeared during the week stating there were just 6 days to go before its doors are to shut for good with offers of at least half price on any of its rapidly diminishing stock. The 3.5 acre site has 295 parking spaces as well as the store and has already seen problems with fly-tipping and disturbance as usage has wound down. Concrete barriers have been put in place to prevent travellers returning. The redevelopment will see it transformed into a mixed-use development, including a large supermarket and associated car parking with 473 flats. What happens to the site immediately after the closure remains unclear. We asked the developer Berkeley if it can confirm a start date for construction and what plans it has for the land until ground is broken but a spokesperson said it was unable to comment at this time.
Homebase is now owned by Hilco Capital which is closing the store as part of a proposed Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) designed to save the group from administration.
