Thumbs Down for Kew Bridge Station Quarter Scheme |

Council planners against nine storey tower behind Express Tavern
Council planners are recommended that approval is not given to a major property development near Kew Bridge Station. The Kew Bridge Station Quarter scheme would have included 45 flats and a nine storey tower in a storage yard at the rear the Express Tavern pub. Borough planners say the plan would be harmful to the character and appearance of the site and neighbouring conservation areas and listed buildings. They also deem that there is insufficient communal amenity space for residents and too little affordable housing. Consent had been given for a six storey residential building in 2018 but a plan was submitted for a tower on the same footprint three storeys higher and include 15 more flat. The application site comprises an area of undeveloped land to the rear of 57-59 Kew Bridge Station and the national overground line to the North. The brownfield site was formerly used as a storage depot in connection with the overground rail line but is currently a derelict site surplus to requirements. The proposal to increase the height of the building was prompted by the significantly higher sky line that has emerged since the initial scheme was granted approval as the Brentford Community Stadium enabling development goes up.
