A public meeting is to be held by members of the Brentford Art Works team to introduce themselves and gather views on the future of arts and culture in Brentford.

The group emerged from the campaign to save the Watermans Art Centre which closed with little warning this April. The Save Our Watermans campaign evolved into a broader working group looking at the issue of arts in TW8.

It strongly believes that there is a need for a centre that can offer arts and leisure facilities in Brentford as well as a space for community groups of all kinds, a meeting place and a place to eat and enjoy a drink or a coffee.

Brentford Arts Works aims to represent the community, arts and business sectors and to advocate for preservation of Brentford’s rich heritage. It is frustrated with the lack of clarity over the future of the building at 40 High Street Brentford, despite the council’s assurances that there would always be arts provision and a community hub on the site, irrespective of whether or not and when the arts centre might be relocated.

Over a thousand people signed the petition to save the centre and now Brentford Arts Works has a fully costed business plan to revive it. It is waiting to submit its bid for using the building as soon as the Council makes good its promise to invite applications for Meanwhile Use of the building.

There will be a chance to meet the team and talk through the future of the arts in Brentford on Thursday 12 September from 6:30- 8:30pm at The Musical Museum.

The group is seeking volunteers for multiple roles: marketing, design, legal support, fundraising and development, and programming .

Attendance at the event is free but you can reserve a place here.

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We’ve always done that and won’t be changing, in fact we’d like to do more.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.

If neither of these amounts is suitable for you then contact info@neighbournet.com and we can set up an alternative. All payments are made through a secure web site.

One-off donations are also appreciated. Choose The Amount You Wish To Contribute.
