Following the appeal for funds for the resiting of the war memorial to Brentford Library moves are now afoot to find out more details about the men who are named on it.

The war memorial stands in the churchyard of St Lawrence's Church, on the south side of the High Street near the road side. It is inscribed 'In memory of our heroes of West Brentford who fell during the Great War 1914-1919'. The memorial lists 172 names in four columns and another 5 names on the left side of the memorial.

Celia Cotton has listed them on her website with all the details currently available including those of her grandfather H A Dunn who is one of the men named. He was born in Brentford and died at a very young age at the Somme.

If you have further information that can be added you can contact Celia through her Brentford High Street Project web site which has a wealth of additional information about the area.
