Newly formed community Brentford Boat Club youth squads have managed to participate in 20 races over two days.

Rowers from across the local area, aged between 13 and 16, were racing alongside elite clubs and schools at both the Chiswick Centenary Regatta on Saturday and the Scullery National Regatta on the prestigious Eton Dorney Lake at Windsor on Monday.

At the Chiswick Regatta, Brentford Boat Club entered 9 races on the Thames and with crews rowing against top notch teams from around London and the home counties. Amongst the winners were the Boys and Girls J14 Octos who both won their finals, as did the Boys J15 Quad.

At the National Scullery Regatta, Brentford Boat Club were entered for 11 events, and reached 7 finals against established clubs & schools from all over the UK. The Boys J14 Octo earned a Bronze medal showing grit as they rowed the Olympic Lake on the last event of the day, a truly impressive achievement as many only started rowing last year.

The Brentford Boat Club is an open club and welcomes new members from all levels to its Learn to Row Courses and Holiday Camps run by Team Keane and is committed to supporting young athletes from a diverse range of backgrounds.

Commenting on the results, Performance Director Paul Keane said, “These superb results really show that a new, small community club can compete and win on a national level against established clubs. We are so proud of all the young people who row with us, they show grit and determination in all weathers and throughout the Winter to get into shape for these races and it is a testimony to their teamwork when they pull off these remarkable results. We look forward to making an even greater mark in the rowing world in the year ahead.”
