Premises Licence Granted for Former Sauki Site
Further conditions imposed but concerns about dark kitchen dismissed

A recent meeting of the Hounslow Borough Licensing Panel has approved an application for a premises licence at a large venue at Brentford Dock.
The former Sauki restaurant at Unit 8, which also fronts onto Brentford High Street, has been vacant for some time and the request was being made by QC Newport Ltd, a company registered at an address in Chinatown. The unit was only opened as Sauki for a relatively short time having been the China Buffet before that.
The previous licence holder was dissolved but permission was being sought to sell alcohol at a restaurant with table service until 11pm each evening with the last customer leaving by 11.30pm.
There were over 20 objections made by residents including on grounds of noise, potential anti-social behaviour and potential disruption due to the operation of a ‘dark kitchen’ which assumed the business would be operated primarily for deliveries.
Complaints were also made about ongoing building work at the premises, but this wasn’t a matter that could be considered by the Panel.
The Panel accepted the applicant’s contention that this premises would not operate as a dark kitchen but nevertheless opted to impose a number of extra conditions to allay residents’ concerns and ensure a ‘more robust’ compliance with Licensing Conditions. These included requiring the provision of a contact telephone number for residents to call with any complaints. Additional restrictions were placed on the taking away of alcohol from the premises and on the conduct of delivery drivers while waiting to collect orders. They are forbidden from gathering outside the premises or running their engines when not required.
It is understood that the site will eventually reopen as a Chinese restaurant.
