Following approval of earlier application new operation could open in Safestore
June 23, 2023 A second 24-hour online alcohol sales operation could be set to open in Brentford in a Safestore unit on the Great West Road. Earlier this month the borough Licensing Panel gave approval for Booze London Ltd to operate from a storage unit on Transport Avenue. The second application is by Ealing Wines Ltd and is justified in similar terms to the earlier plan. It will be serving customers seven days a week for orders made online including through delivery apps like UberEats and Deliveroo. The orders would be packed and despatched from the unit which is secured when not in use with a roller shutter.Although it will provide just alcohol initially, a representative of the applicant said it may also start delivering groceries. Despite the application being for 24 hour operation, Safestore says that its customers can only access its units during its trading hours. The stock is to be stored in Unit 54 of the Wow Storage facility with the panel accepting the applicant’s argument that the yard has state of the art security with electronic gates and no public access and that no direct sales would be made from the site. The councillors did not concur with an objection from a local resident on the grounds that the unit would be easy to break into and therefore could attract crime to the area. There were no representations from the Licensing Enforcement Team opposing the application and the hours of operation were agreed by the police.
A spokesperson for Safestore said that sales could not be made from its unit on a 24 hour basis as customers only had access from 8am to 6pm Monday to Saturday, 8am to 8pm Thursday and 10am to 4pm Sunday. Comments on the application can be sent to the Hounslow Licensing team at Licensing@hounslow.gov.uk and must be received by 4 July.
