Two new councillors to be selected next month

The votes in the two wards are being held on Thursday 6 March
February 12, 2025
The final list of candidates for the two forthcoming by-elections in Brentford has been published.
Brentford East ward and Syon & Brentford Lock ward will both be selecting two new councillors on Thursday 6 March. Both seats were previously held by Labour.
Labour has been forced into a late change in Brentford East after its original selection Kauser Fadal withdrew for personal reasons. Having originally only accepted applications from female candidates, the party appointed Chiswick resident Max Mosley as her replacement.
He will be defending the seat from Christine Cunniffe (Conservative), David Kerr (Reform UK), Bernice Roust (Liberal Democrats) and Rashid Wahab (Greens).
At the 2022 local elections in Brentford East, Rhys Williams, whose resignation prompted the new poll, was over 700 votes ahead of the third placed Conservative candidate meaning that there would need to be a major swing away from Labour for the seat to change hands.
Syon and Brentford Lock may be harder for Labour to hold onto. In the 2022 vote, Theo Dennison, the former Labour councillor standing as an independent, was 258 votes behind Balraj Sarai who stepped down after failing to turn up for council meetings for six months.
Mr Dennison is standing again with Jennifer Prain representing Labour this time, Jack Ballentyne standing for the Liberal Democrats, Michael Denniss for the Conservatives, Chinmay Parulekar for Reform and Freya Summersgill for the Greens.
