Nick Rogers fights off strong Lib Dem challenge to take seat for Tories
South West candidates clockwise from top left: Candice Atterton , Dominique Day, Sylvia da Barca, Nicholas Rogers, Gareth Roberts, Andree Frieze
The South West constituency in the London Assembly was more closely contested than previously expected in the recent election.
Nicholas Rogers became the first person to represent the South West constituency, which covers Hounslow and Richmond boroughs, other than Tony Arbour but the Conservative candidate won less than a third of the vote with the Liberal Democrats making large gains. Their candidate, Gareth Roberts, increased his share of the vote by 13.9% to push Labour hopeful Candice Atterton into third place.
Senior local members of both the Lib Dems and the Conservatives agree that Hammersmith Bridge was a factor in this election.
Sadiq Khan came second in the constituency vote for London Mayor.
