TfL to publish updated plans on section between Brentford and Syon Park
July 5, 2024 Transport for London (TfL) has announced that it intends to hold another consultation on a further extension of Cycleway 9. It has already asked for feedback on initial ideas for a 4.1km segregated cycleway between Brentford and Hounslow town centre in early 2022. These plans have since been further developed and it is now proposed to consult again on a section between Brentford and Syon Park. The plan covers Brentford High Street and London Road from the County Court at the junction of Alexandra Road to Beech Avenue. More details of what is being proposed are to be released before the consultation launches on 15 July. It will run until 9 September. It is proposed to build protected cycle lanes on each side of the road on this section and also provide new pedestrian crossings. Four bus stops are understood to be being considered for conversion to an island format. Part of the project will also consider where new trees and rain gardens could be added. It is not clear at this stage what the impact would be on the bus lanes where the cycle lanes are being proposed.
TfL will be holding a series of public drop-in events at which you will be able to question its staff about the proposals. No details of dates and venues have yet been released. The details of the consultation report on the earlier proposals can be accessed here.
