A petition organised by the Osterley and Wyke Green Residents’ Association (OWGRA) is calling on Transport for London (TfL) to accelerate the extension of the E1 bus route.
At the moment the service runs from Greenford to Ealing Broadway but TfL is proposing to extend the route to the current Tesco Osterley site in May 2027 in anticipation of increased demand due to the housing developments in the area..
The extended route would run along the South Ealing Road and the Great West Road.
TfL has said that the extension could be brought forward if it was found necessary and OWGRA is arguing that current levels of demand already justify it due to the H91 route, the only service along the A4/Great West Road, often being full or stuck in traffic.
This means that to travel from Ealing to Osterley on public transport, a distance of less than three miles as the crow flies, requires catching two buses (the H91 and 65) and can take between 30-45 minutes compared to only 15 by car.
Public Transport Accessibility Level (PTAL) measures, which rank the density of the public transport network at any location within Greater London, show Osterley having very low levels of access.
OWGRA says, “Extending the E1 bus from Ealing Broadway to Osterley in 2024 would mean better and quicker public transport to Ealing Broadway (shopping centre, restaurants, theatre, cinemas etc) and the Elizabeth line and that the H91 and 65 buses would be less crowded.
“It would be in line with TfL’s Business Plan commitment to improve bus services in outer London.”
The petition, which at the time of writing had 182 signatures, will be submitted to the Mayor of London and TfL at the first plenary session of the new London Assembly in early June following the elections this May.
