Brompton Wins Gold Eurobike Award

Innovative Brompton Oratory Jacket Lauded

Brompton Bicycle Ltd, the London-based manufacturer of the iconic Brompton folding bike, has today been awarded its first Eurobike Award for its innovative Brompton Oratory Jacket, launched in London last month.

In a ceremony marking the end of the first day of the Eurobike show in Friedrichshafen, it was further announced that the Oratory Jacket was one of just ten products to be awarded a much-prized Gold Award, signifying that the jury considered the product demonstrated “outstanding achievement in design and innovation”.

The Award certificates were collected by Brompton MD, William Butler-Adams, and Will Carleysmith, Brompton’s Head of Design. Commenting after the ceremony, Will said:

“We are of course delighted that the Eurobike Awards jury has recognised what we set out to do with the Oratory Jacket: a cycling jacket that didn’t look like a cycling jacket, and which normalises cycling, without any loss of functionality on the bike.

“It took us three years of designs, prototypes and testing before we got a product we felt did our reputation as a high-quality manufacturer proud. It’s been a long road but everyone involved in the project should feel very proud today.”

William Butler-Adams added:

“Making world-class bikes in London will always be at the heart of Brompton – it is our core business, and we do it very well. But our knowledge of the cycling and transportation sectors means that we can also play a positive role in related areas; one example of that is the innovative Brompton Dock hire solution being rolled out at UK train stations, and the Brompton Oratory jacket is another example.

“Our goal is to become the personal transport brand of choice by making outstanding products, whether that is in and around our bikes – and we are announcing a few innovations there this week too – or in ancillary services, apparel, etc. What binds all our activities together is our commitment to high-quality functionality and solution-oriented design. The Oratory Jacket is a perfect example of that: yes, it looks great, but it’s the functionality and everyday performance that will delight users and build loyalty – just like the Brompton bike has for over 20 years.”

The Eurobike Award is a coveted accolade for bicycles and bicycle accessories, administered by iF International Forum Design GmbH. The award is based on criteria such as degree of innovation, use of materials, functionality and sustainability.
