Rye by the Water Announces Surprise Closure |

Plans to move to new site fell through at last minute
March 15, 2024 The popular waterside café and bakery, Rye by the Water has unexpectedly announced that it is to close. The venue on Catherine Wheel Road will serve its last customer this Sunday (17 March). It was always anticipated that the site was not permanent, but Ballymore are understood to have gained a ten-year temporary permission for use of the area in 2020 as the Brentford Project progressed and Rye by the Water’s residence was expected to be measured in years rather than days from now. It had been assumed by many that it would have been given a lease at a similar site in the development possibly at the St. Lawrence’s Church site. No indication was given of exactly what precipitated the closure. A post from management on social media said, “We thought we had the site to move into but it fell through at the final hour due to planning restrictions.” It continued, “We relay would love to stay but our time in Brentford has come to a close, We have loved being here in this little haven by the water and meeting all of you, our wonderful customers.” The team behind Rye by the Water will be moving to its sister restaurant Darbys in Battersea for the time-being.
