Future use of the site "to benefit local area and Syon Park"
Syon Park Garden Centre will close this autumn. Anthony Jones, Chief Operating Officer at Wyevale said “I am disappointed to announce two centre closures. Our ambition has always been to find a positive outcome for all centres but unfortunately Potters Bar Garden Centre and Syon Park Garden Centre will close in the autumn. I would like to thank all colleagues at these centres and wish them the very best for the future.” 62 members of staff will be affected by the Syon Park closure. Wyevale will be reduced to 32 garden centres with a further six trading under licence. A spokesperson for Northumberland Estates said: “We are sorry to hear that the corporate owners of the Wyevale Garden Centre chain, Terra Firma, have taken the decision to close the Syon branch, along with the company’s head office, as a part of national reorganisation plans. There has been a garden centre on the Syon site since 1967 and it will be greatly missed. As owners of the site we will now begin the process of reviewing our options and exploring new opportunities. While it is too early as yet to say what these might include, we can confirm that we will be looking to invest for the long term. Our immediate priority will be to keep some employment and activity on the site. Beyond that, any future use must benefit both the local area and Syon Park, and we will therefore be focusing on business opportunities to complement and improve the existing visitor offer at Syon.” August 6, 2019 |
