Integrated network and control centre to improve community safety and enforcement
Councillors and officers gathered on Thursdayfor the unveiling of Hounslow Council’s new integrated CCTV Network and Control Centre on Trimmer Walk in Brentford. The event was attended by Leader of the Council, Cllr Steve Curran, Cabinet Lead for Communities and Workforce, Cllr Katherine Dunne, Cabinet Lead for Housing and Social Inclusion, Cllr Lily Bath and Chief Executive of Hounslow Council, Niall Bolger. This significant investment in the borough’s CCTV capability was approved by Hounslow Cabinet in November 2018, as an integral part of its commitment to revamping the council’s overall approach towards improving community safety across the borough. The project required a total investment of £4.68m of which £2.55m came from the Housing Revenue Account (HRA) and £2.125m from the general fund. The council says the new state-of-the-art, high definition CCTV network will increase the capacity to monitor the borough’s streets, especially hotspot areas, on a 24/7, 365 days-a-year basis. This will not only assist council staff in taking enforcement action, but also facilitate closer working with the police and other agencies, leading to improved community safety. Councillor Katherine Dunne, Lead Member for Communities at Hounslow Council said: “With our new integrated CCTV capability, we are equipping our housing, neighbourhood and enforcement teams with the best technology to better monitor our streets and safeguard our communities from those who flout the law in a wide number of areas. Communities should feel reassured with the extended capacity of the service and the enhanced community safety as a result.”
