June local policing update for Brentford, Syon and Osterley & Spring Grove
As part of the regular IBAF meetings (Isleworth and Brentford Action Forums) local police produce a combined report on police and criminal activity for Brentford, Syon and Osterley & Spring Grove wards. You can hear the reports being presented and discussed at IBAF.
The team at Brentford remains unchanged with PC Lee Davies-Gonzalez and PC
Vincent Kam being the PC Dedicated Ward Officers (DWO) for the ward and Angela Mirzai the PCSO DWO.
Syon still has PC Emma Greasley and PC Sukriti Bharj as the DWO but long
standing PCSO DWO Berkeley Greene has moved on to pastures new outside of the
MPS. We are still waiting for an update on his replacement.
Osterley and Spring Grove has also seen a change in PCSOs with Rob Miller
moving on to become a PC and we now have PCSO Antonia Somogyi with us.
Ward officers have been focusing heavily on crime patrols with robbery featuring in
Brentford. A large group of suspects has been targeted during this period and a
number of arrests have been made and investigations begun. This has been in
addition to our ongoing efforts around knife enabled crime and serious youth
violence.
Burglary
Osterley and Spring Grove:
Burglary offences in Osterley in the last three months has seen a decrease in
offences compared to the previous quarter. 25 offences were recorded compared
with 44 in the previous three month period (43.2% reduction). We are currently
tracking as a slight decrease on last year with a 1.6% reduction overall.
Brentford
Brentford has also seen a positive reduction with 25.9% less offences in this
reporting quarter compared to last. There were 40 offences in the last three months
compared to 54 in the previous three months.
Syon
Syon ward has also seen a very positive reduction in Burglary offences. There have
been 28 offences this quarter compared to 51 in the previous quarter. This
represents a significant drop in Burglary offences overall compared to the previous
reporting quarter. There was a large amount of work done by the team, alongside
colleagues in the pro-active squad and CID to tackle a known group of offenders
resulting in arrests and prosecutions.
Theft from motor vehicle (TFMV)
TFMV continues to be a priority across all three wards and the team are focusing on
crime prevention and getting the message out via OWL to ensure vehicles are
locked and secured and property not left on display. This is particularly an issue
around transport hubs and commuters leaving vehicles vulnerable.
Osterley and Spring Grove
Osterley has also seen a decrease in TFMV offences which when taken alongside the reduction in Burglary is very positive news. This quarter saw 36 offences compared to 51 in the previous three months (a reduction of 29.4%).
Brentford
Brentford has seen a slight increase in TFMV with 4 more offences than the previous
quarter. There were 51 offences in this three month period compared with 47
previously (8.5% increase).
Syon
Similar to Osterley ad Spring Grove, Syon has seen a positive reduction overall in
TFMV offences. 36 offences were reported in the last quarter compared with 46
previously, a drop of 21.7%.
Robbery
Osterley and Spring Grove
Robbery across Osterley and Spring Gove has seen an increase from 4 offences in
the previous three months to 7 in this reporting quarter. The team continue to talk to
West Thames College about safeguarding students and also working with schools
officers to try and prevent robberies from occurring
Brentford
Brentford has seen the largest increase in offences with 27 reported this quarter
compared to 12 the previous quarter (125% increase). We have been looking closely at this rise and
the causes for it. Recently Chiswick was a hotspot for robbery and a large piece of
work went in to tackling this problem. As a result we believe there has been some
displacement of offenders which has carried over to Brentford. As a result the team
increased patrols and have been working very closely with the pro-active teams. The
team completed a number of arrests for these offences and various searches were
conducted. Investigations are ongoing and the team remain confident of securing
charges. Although not reported in this quarter the latest monthly figures have seen a
significant drop in the area of robbery offences
Syon
Syon has also seen a slight increase from 5 offences in the previous three months to
8 this quarter. Syon officers are working closely with Brentford officers to jointly
tackle this issue.
Officers will continue to engage with the local communities to try and identify issues
early and intervene to prevent issues escalating. The use of OWL to flag any
instances to the Police will play a key role in maintaining this reduction.
