No Gap in Supermarket Provision on Brentford High Street |

Existing Morrisons to remain operational until its replacement is complete
Concerns that Brentford could be left without a large supermarket have been allayed following the announcement that the existing Morrisons store is remaining open until June 2023. L&Q which is developing the site has said that it has arranged for the supermarket chain to continue to operate at its existing location until that date. The intention is that the store closes just as a new 36,000 sq ft Morrisons store opens on the south side of the High Street as part of Ballymore’s Brentford Project. This will be a short walk from the existing store near the junction with Half Acre. Morrisons earlier took legal action to delay planning permission for the development on their existing site saying they weren’t properly consulted but were unsuccessful. Its new store in Ballymore’s ‘Brentford Project’ will have basement parking for around 130 cars. The Leader of Hounslow Council, Councillor Steve Curran, said, “I am sure that this news will be warmly welcomed by the residents of Brentford. “This outcome is testament to the commitment and hard work of L&Q, council officers and the ward councillors in Syon and Brentford who worked tirelessly with all those involved to ensure this was achieved. “Supermarkets are often focal points for local communities, and I saw first-hand the integral role supermarkets played during the pandemic – supporting the most vulnerable residents in the borough. I am pleased that Morrisons in Brentford will remain an important part of the local community and a place where Brentford residents can easily access their shopping needs.”
