Wants to convert offices in Strand on the Green into classrooms Pier House in Strand on the Green
An application (P/2022/2416) has been submitted to Hounslow Council for a change of use for part of Pier House in Strand on the Green to allow it to be converted into classrooms. Kew House School, which is situated nearby on Capital Interchange Way, wants to use the building as an annexe for its growing sixth form. The proposal is for offices and a fitness centre on the ground floor and four classrooms on the first floor. The space, which is currently designated as office (Class E) is about 400 sq metres and belongs to Fuller Smith and Turner. It was recently refurbished following a fire at the building. The new annexe would accommodate up to 80 pupils and staff. The school currently has a total capacity for 600 senior school pupils. Kew House School received planning approval in 2016 for a four-storey sixth-form facility on their existing site on Capital Interchange Way but it says demand has continued to grow for places. It received an ‘excellent’ rating from the Independent Schools Inspectorate earlier this year. The school already operates a satellite annexe and considers the development at Pier House to be appropriate for their requirements. The exterior of the building would remain unchanged and there would be no resulting obstruction on the highway. The school says it has ample parking at the Capital Interchange Way site and it does not anticipate the presence of the annexe would create significant amounts of traffic movement. Pupils and staff would be expected to walk between the two sites. Kew House School, is part of The Gardener Schools Group (GSG)) which also runs Kew Green Prep, Ravenscourt Park Prep and Maida Vale School.
