June 21, 2023 The next concert to be given by Hounslow Symphony Orchestra will be Dorian Dimitrov’s first as its new Music Director. Having first performed with the orchestra in 2019 he was repeatedly asked back to guest conduct until finally he was appointed this year to his new role. The Bulgarian-British conductor started as a pianist aged nine and was awarded a scholarship to study at the Yehudi Menuhin School under Professor Ruth Nye with whom he continued for the duration of his six years at the school. Afterwards, he went on to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with professors Charles Owen and Katya Apekisheva and graduated with Honours. He has appeared in many venues in the United Kingdom and Bulgaria, including the Wigmore Hall, Fairfield Halls, Menuhin Hall, Banqueting House (London), Royal Overseas League (Edinburgh) Perthshire, Festival Hall (Bulgaria) as well as multiple times on Bulgarian National Television and Radio. His first concert as Music Director is taking place on Saturday 1 July at 7.30pm at St Mary's Church, Osterley Road, Isleworth. As well as more well known works from Haydn and Beethove, the programme includes a piece from Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, the son of a slave who was one of the most lauded composers of the 18th century but whose work is rarely performed in this country. A bio-pic telling his story has recently been released. The soloist is Muriel Oberhofer. HSO says it aims to be the friendliest orchestra in London. It is an amateur orchestra of around 55 players which plays three concerts each season, usually at St Mary’s Church, Osterley Road, Isleworth TW7 4PW and St Paul’s Church, 56 Grove Park Road, Chiswick, W4 3SB. It concentrates on the standard classical and romantic repertoire and from time to time perform contemporary works.
