A mural on the grass at Thornbury Park in Isleworth has given visitors to the UK a royal welcome over the Coronation weekend.

Positioned on the flight path on the approach to Heathrow arrivals were able to see the message which says ‘A Royal Welcome to Our Home'.

The flowers on the artwork were designed by Jasmine (aged 9) and Raya (aged 12), children from a local holiday club, Fun Fest Hounslow. The design follows the theme of ’a natural world’, which is something close to the King’s heart and a key theme of the Coronation emblem.

The 47 metres by 64 artwork which was created by a partnership between British Airways and Visit Britain was put in place ahead of the Royal event.

Hounslow Council Leader, Councillor Shantanu Rajawat and the Mayor of Hounslow, Councillor Raghwinder Siddhu, officially unveiled the mural on Friday (5 May).

The was seen by thousands of visitors from across the world touching down on the London Heathrow for a weekend of Coronation celebrations.

Leader of Hounslow Council, Councillor Shantanu Rajawat said, “It’s a wonderful tribute to our new King here in Thornbury Park, one of over 120 brilliant parks and green spaces in Hounslow – a borough we want the world to know as a thriving destination.

“We know a tremendous amount of planning and work from various organisations has gone into making this happen. A special thanks to British Airways, VisitBritain, Fun Fest Hounslow, our Greenspace Team and last but not least, Jasmine and Raya – our outstanding young artists”.

Mayor of Hounslow, Councillor Raghwinder Siddhu said, “I would like to thank Lampton Services’, Greenspace team, who manage local parks across Hounslow – they did a great job preparing Thornbury Park for this fantastic tribute.

“A huge congratulations from all of us at Hounslow to the British Airways team, VisitBritain, Fun Fest Hounslow and everyone involved. You have all worked incredibly hard to give people, living and visiting Hounslow a ‘royal welcome’.”

Drone footage has been created by British Airways and VisitBritain so you can see how the mural appears to people on a plane.
