The council’s Sport and Physical Activity Team - in partnership with Carillion Community Services – plan to install the gyms in a number of parks and open spaces across the borough this Spring including St Paul's Recreation Ground.

Outdoor gyms include much of the same equipment found in an indoor gym, but they’re specifically designed for outdoor use. They’re suitable for a range of abilities and there’s no membership fee to pay.

Gyms are also planned for Beaversfield Park, Hanworth Park, Southville Park (Cage Park), Thornbury Playing Fields and Osterley Sports and Athletics Ground.

The stated aim is to:

• Provide user friendly, innovative and safe equipment that meets the varying needs of users aged 14yrs+
• Provide a minimum of eight items of equipment to improve cardio fitness and strength
• Speak to residents about the equipment, the benefits, the proposal and gather feedback
• Provide free training on how to use the equipm

Hounslow Council wants to know what residents and park users think of the plans and have asked for views through a public consultation. For more details and to take part in the consultation; visit outdoor-gyms/ before 14th January.

Councillor Ed Mayne, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Leisure, Hounslow Council said: “We want everyone to be able to make use their local park or open spaces in lots of different ways.

““Outdoor gyms are just one of the features we are looking at.  We want to increase the number of people doing sports, living a healthier life and doing exercise.  This is just one of the ways we’re looking at helping everyone to do this. It will give both young and old the chance to be more active and enjoy their local parks as well.

“Please tell us what you’d like to see in your park so we can do our best to provide what’s wanted.”

BrentfordTW8 has asked where this equipment will go in the park.
