Isleworth Library reopened its doors this week, boasting a range of new green upgrades for both residents and customers.

The improvement works at Isleworth Library include solar panels and energy-efficient lightbulbs. Traditional gas-fired boilers with modern Air Source Heat Pumps supplying low-cost energy-saving heating and hot water as part of a series of upgrades being made in libraries across the borough.

These improvements will reduce costs by 23 per cent and reduce the building’s (Isleworth Leisure Centre and Library) carbon emissions by 50 per cent.

The programme is part of a wider programme of £18.9m investment from the Government’s Public Sector Decarbonisation Fund which has allowed the council to introduce carbon-cutting and energy-saving measures in schools and public buildings across the borough.

Having declared a Climate Emergency in 2019, Hounslow Council pledged to become a net-zero carbon local authority by 2030.

Hounslow Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Climate Emergency, Councillor Katherine Dunne, said, “The Council is rising to the challenges of climate change by making our buildings as energy-efficient as we possibly can. Our strategy has been to take a fresh look at everything we do as a Council to ensure we’re playing our part in protecting the environment for future generations

“The improvements at Isleworth Library are a great example of how we can reduce our carbon footprint while simultaneously cutting our running costs.”

Hounslow Council's Cabinet Member for Leisure Services, Councillor Samia Chaudhary, said, “The improvements made to Isleworth Library means a more enjoyable experience for residents and users. We all have a duty to do what’s best for the environment and we must continue to act now in our response to a global climate emergency.

“The improvements carried out at Isleworth Library will go a long way in reducing our carbon footprint and ensuring the library is fit for use for many years to come.”
