A 28-year-old man from Brentford has been sent to jail for four and a half years after being found guilty of a string of burglaries across west London.

James Beharry was sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court earlier this month along with Basil Heath of Hayes. They had pleaded guilty to eleven offences in all including five residential burglaries spanning between 10 January and 20 March in the Hayes, Harrow, Ealing and Hounslow areas. They would use a brick to smash windows to gain access, stealing jewellery, laptops, games consoles and other items and on one occasion committed the offence whilst the victims were asleep in bed.

The pair were caught when the investigating officers from the West Area BCU Proactive CID Unit pieced together a large amount of CCTV footage from local council cameras, retail premises and doorbell video footage. This work allowed them to track the journeys of both at the time of the offences sometimes leading back to their home addresses.

Heath used two of his own vehicles to drive to commit the offences as well as attempting to use a stolen bank card to purchase items from a local store. On 20 March 2019, Heath was stopped driving one of the vehicles by two unmarked police cars and arrested on suspicion of burglary and driving offences.

On the arrest of both Beharry and Heath, the former being found with a small amount of herbal cannabis, a search of their respective home addresses was conducted and several items of clothing worn by the pair at the time of the offences were recovered. A small amount of cannabis was also found at Heath’s address.

On appearing at court James Beharry pled guilty to five counts of burglary, one for possession of cannabis, one for breach of a community order and one breach of a suspended sentence. He was sentenced to four years and nine months imprisonment.

Basil Heath pled guilty to two residential burglary charges, one for possession of cannabis and two driving offences. He received a thirty month imprisonment sentence.

Hounlsow Metropolitan Police said, “This was a professional and prolific burglary team and, since their incarceration, West Area has seen a noticeable reduction in burglary offences.

“A big thank you goes to Shepherd’s Bush Housing Association who worked closely with officers from the West Area BCU to secure the convictions of these two prolific offenders.”
