Borough currently tops the table in London for infection rates
The case rates for Covid-19 infection in the Brentford and Isleworth areas have been described as ‘phenomenally high’ despite some indications that they have fallen from the record levels seen before Christmas. Brentford East is the neighbourhood with the most positive tests with 228 people testing positive to give an infection rate of 1,836.5 per 100,000 population in the week to 9 January. This is a 10.1% increase on the previous week. Spring Grove and Syon Green have similar rates but in these neighbourhoods the number of infections has started to fall. A local health expert said, "The fall in reported infections coincides with a reduction in the availability of tests so there may be good reason to treat the recent fall as a quirk of the data. Whatever, the case is the number is phenomenally high and if you haven't been vaccinated the risk of you catching the disease and getting seriously ill is something you should avoid." Other data, also from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) based on the proportion of tests that are positive indicates that infection rates were still at record levels at the turn of the year. The borough of Hounslow currently has the highest rate of infection in London but the average is being driven up by the number of cases in the west. This is a reversal of the situation before the holidays when it was the east of the borough that had the highest case rates.
