Brentford Sees No Reports of Covid Infections in Latest Week
Virus still present in parts of Isleworth and Osterley
Surge testing taking place in areas with the South African variant of the virus
The latest official data on Covid-19 infections show that there have been no reported cases in the Brentford area in the week to 10 April.
For the purposes of reporting the TW8 area is divided up into Brentford East, Brentford Central and Brentford West & Osterley Park. These three zones showed no cases although the Office of National Statistics (ONS) does not report cases for an area if there are fewer than three to protect the privacy of individuals.
There was however, a bounce back in the number of infections in the Isleworth area which reported 8 positive tests to give an infection rate of 91.2 per 100,000 population equivalent. The Syon Green and Osterley & Lampton East areas reported three cases each.
A local GP has advised caution despite the encouraging data saying, “Although this is great news don’t be surprised if the virus reappears in the Brentford area again. The gradual reopening will provide opportunities for infections to spread and there are nearby areas where the incidence of the disease remains high. My advice would be is be as careful as ever when out shopping and, while you should take the chance to meet friends outside, try and avoid those you know are not adhering to government guidelines.”
Hounslow borough still has one of the highest infection rates in London at 39 cases per 100,000 in the week to 10 April.
The appearance of the South African variant of the virus in parts of South London has led to surge testing being implemented in those areas with mobile testing units set up and all residents urged to take a test. Although there were earlier some cases of this new strain being present in Ealing and Hanwell, it has not been reported in Brentford and Isleworth.
The latest figures for deaths at a local level have been published and they show that 19 more people have died across the TW8 and TW7 postcode areas in February. This brings the total number of fatalities since the start of the pandemic to 129.
The ONS divide the country into ‘Middle Super Output Areas’ (MSOAs) of roughly equal population size.

On 15 April the daily number of new people tested positive for Covid-19 in London was reported as 315. The total number of COVID-19 cases identified in London is 714,735 as at 14 April, this compares to 3,828,666 cases for England as a whole.
In the most recent week of complete data to 10 April 2021, 1,965 cases were identified in London, a rate of 22 cases per 100,000 population. This compares with 2,304 cases and a rate of 26 for the previous week.
For the same period 15,769 cases were identified in England as a whole, a rate of 28 cases per 100,000 population. This compares with 20,231 cases and a rate of 36 for the previous week.
Up to and including 11 April 3,295,108 people in London had received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 780,607 had received two doses.
