Despite concern about noise, mess and damage after last rave
The creators of Junction 2, the one day rave that has very successfully taken place two years in a row have obtained a license for two events covering a Friday and Saturday night. The event, held under the M4 motorway in Boston Manor park, is described as ' an underground electronic music festival. It first took place on Saturday 4th June 2016 and last summer was described by MixMag as ' London's best techno event' and it was a sell out. However, whilst music goers were largely happy both Hounslow and Ealing residents complained. The applicant stated to the panel that they were aware that there were issues with the security at the previous event and consequently three separate security companies would now be employed with different designated roles. Hence, one company would be dealing with the inside of the park, one would be dealing with access and security upon entry, and one would be dealing with egress from the event and managing the outside of the premises. In essence, there would be more security guards that would be working cohesively. In relation to cleaning, a new cleaning contractor would be employed to deal with dealing with cleaning. More toilet facilities would be provided which would be adequately screened. Furthermore, the level of music was now to be reduced to minimise noise nuisance. The first application was for up to 9,999; this is for 14,999 people. Organisers have applied to Hounslow Council for a license for two events covering Friday night and and Saturday in 2018. Friday night would be an evening concert for up to 4000 people on 8th June 2018, 6.30-10:30pm. Saturday 9th June would be the music festival from noon to 10:30pm. Both nights allow a further half hour for people to leave, closing at 11pm. Around 15,000 people are expected to attend. Organisers will need access to the park from 6am on Monday morning 4th June right through to Tuesday 12 June in order to set up and break down the events. There are detailed conditions in the licence referring to safety, provision of alcohol, noise control, toilets, security and stewarding etc. An Event Management Plan must be agreed before the event can take place. 110 comments were received about the application including from the Noise and Nuisance Team at London Borough of Ealing. Neither the police nor Hounslow's Noise team made any comments.
