The widespread assumption in the world of football is that Christian Eriksen will be a Manchester Uniter player next season. However, Brentford manager, Thomas Frank has not completely given up hope of retaining his 30-year-old Danish compatriot.
In an interview with a Danish newspaper on Wednesday (6 July) , he said: “Right now he’s not a Brentford player, but he’s not a player with anyone else either.
“It may well be that right now it looks like it’s going to be a different place than with us, but let’s see. What am I supposed to answer to that?
“I have to be optimistic, but I do read newspapers. Let’s see what happens.”
Most reporters believe that Eriksen has verbally agreed terms with Manchester United with weekly pay three times what Brentford were able to offer him.
Erik ten Hag, the new united manager, is a big fan of the players and wants to make him his first midfield recruit as he rebuilds the underperforming squad. The Dutch manager came from Ajax where Eriksen spent time in the academy.
Meanwhile the Brentford squad is reassembling for pre-season training without Eriksen. This year should see the completion of big improvements to the club’s training facilities in Jersey Road which should be operational after the Qatar World Cup.
Frank said, “You sometimes forget how quickly the time flies. I’ve been here for five-and-a-half years, and you see a lot of progress throughout the years. We’ve had the new stadium, promotion, staying in the Premier League and now we’re getting a new training ground structure.
"I’m looking forward to that. I have a picture in my head that next year, in April, I’ll be sitting on one of the new terraces with a good cup of coffee and we will be performing fantastically in the Premier League. That’s my hope anyway.”
