Action Isleworth Mothers set up to discuss issues around youth violence
Local mother Astrid Edwards has set up a community outreach support group for mothers directly and indirectly affected by serious youth violence in Hounslow borough. Action Isleworth Mothers (AIM)' core purpose is not only to provide a safe and confidential space for mothers to share their concerns for their young or teenage children but also to support, educate and empower each other in their individual and in some cases life-changing experience of serious youth violence in our area. AIM is hosting its inaugural meeting to discuss the complex issues around serious youth violence in the Borough of Hounslow and to highlight the positive and progressive services that are being rolled out in the borough both at council and community level. AIM’s Community Youth Violence Panel and Q&A is on Thurs March 26 at The Endeavour Theatre, West Thames College, London Road Isleworth at 19:00. Astrid Edwards commented – “Mothers are often the invisible voice, the embarrassed voice, the voice too scared to speak, the voice who just doesn't know where to turn. AIM provides a place for that voice to be heard and to be helped. It offers an accessible place for mothers to come together and share without feeling alone, marginalised, frightened or helpless. "I'd like to think we can change people's lives, possibly even save a few young people along the way with the knowledge I can share and the resources AIM can provide for a more holistic, progressive and non-judgemental approach to the issues surrounding youth violence in our area such as exclusions, grooming, dealing, knife offences, trauma and early intervention ”. The meeting will be chaired by local mother and AIM founder Astrid Edwards - other guests will include: Steve Curran - Leader Hounslow Borough Council, Ruth Cadbury MP - Brentford and Isleworth, Rob Wyatt - Head of Peace Project/YOT Team Hounslow, Garvin Snell - Motivational Speaker/Leader Hanworth Community Youth Centre, Torron Lee-Dewar - Leader of Alliance Dance Unit plus other local community guests including a comprehensive Q&A session.
