Police pursuit of BMW ends in lamp post
Brentford High Street was closed for over five hours by the Jet Garage due to a violent end to a car chase.
According to witnesses a white BMW with two passengers was being chased by a police car from Hounslow towards Kew Bridge when it mounted the pavement just past the JET garage and crashed into one of the empty shops causing a lamp post to break free and jump into the air before crashing down.
The driver ran off into Watermans Park where he was apprehended. The driver of the car was arrested on suspicion of drink driving, dangerous driving and taking and driving away (TDA). Two male passengers were arrested on suspicion of allowing themselves to be carried in a stolen vehicle. All three were taken to hospital where the driver is still being treated for his injuries which are described as not life threatening. Both passengers have since been discharged and taken into custody. The Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed as is routine. Police enquiries continue. The London Ambulance Service as called at 1.08pm and sent two single responders in cars, an ambulance crew, an incident response officer and a Hazardous Area Response Team to the scene alongside London’s Air Ambulance.The air ambulance was not needed but the doctor from the air ambulance accompanied the ambulances.
